Lower Back Pain

Ayurvedic Therapy for Lower Back Pain in Visakhapatnam

Lower back pain is one of the most common complaints among working adults — caused by long sitting hours, poor posture, or muscle strain. It ranges from a dull daily ache to sharp, limiting discomfort.

Does this sound like you?

People arrive describing it in different words, but it usually comes down to some of these.

  • A dull ache that builds through the working day
  • It bites when you stand up after sitting for an hour
  • One side of the lower back feels tighter than the other
  • Lifting anything from the floor makes you brace first
  • Long drives or flights leave you stiff for a day afterwards

This is the most common reason people walk through our door. Usually there is no dramatic injury behind it — just years of sitting, a chair at the wrong height, or one heavy lift that never quite settled. It is rarely mysterious, and it usually responds well.

How Ayurveda approaches this

Our traditional Kerala Thailam therapy addresses the lower back and surrounding muscles using warm herbal Thailams and focused bodywork, aimed at supporting comfort and mobility in the lower back.

Traditional practice does not chase the symptom alone. The therapist also looks at the routine that produced it — how you sit, how you sleep, what you lift — because a condition that took years to build rarely resolves in a single visit.

What to expect in a session

Nothing here is rushed and nothing is hidden from you. A first visit usually runs like this.

  1. A conversation firstThe therapist asks how long you have had the discomfort, what makes it worse, what you do all day, and what treatment you are already receiving. Bring any scans, X-rays, or prescriptions you have.
  2. PreparationYou change in a private treatment room. Herbal Thailams are warmed and selected for your condition. You will be told what is about to happen before it happens.
  3. The therapyWarm medicated Thailam and traditional Kerala bodywork focused on the lower back, hips, and surrounding muscle groups. Pressure is set to what you can comfortably take, and you can ask the therapist to ease off at any point.
  4. Rest and aftercareA short rest afterwards, then simple guidance on food, warmth, and movement for the rest of the day — and an honest view on whether a course of sessions is worth it for you.

Typical session length is confirmed when you book, since it depends on the condition and how you respond to the first visit.

Looking after yourself afterwards

What you do in the hours after a session matters more than most people expect. Nothing here is complicated.

  • Rest for a while before going anywhere. Sit quietly rather than walking straight out into traffic or a meeting.
  • Keep warm and drink warm water. Cold drinks and cold showers work against the warmth the session has built up.
  • Eat something light. A heavy meal straight afterwards tends to leave people sluggish.
  • Leave the heavy work for tomorrow. Gentle movement is good; lifting, gym sessions and long drives are better postponed.
  • Expect Thailam in your hair and on your skin. Plan the timing so you can go home and wash at your own pace rather than rushing.
  • Mild tenderness the next day is normal. Sharp or increasing pain is not — message us and we will talk it through.

When to see a doctor first

We would rather lose a booking than treat something that needs a hospital. If any of the following applies to you, please get medical advice before you come to us.

Back pain that follows a fall or accident, pain that wakes you every night regardless of position, or pain with fever should be seen by a doctor before you book any therapy.

Questions people ask about lower back pain

Do I need a scan before coming?

Not for ordinary muscular lower back pain. Bring one if you already have it, but there is no need to go and get imaging done just to book a consultation. If anything in your description suggests you do need a scan, we will tell you to see a doctor.

Is heat or ice better in the meantime?

For the ongoing, stiff, achy kind of back pain we usually see, warmth generally helps more than cold — which is much of the reasoning behind warm Thailam therapy in the first place. For a fresh injury from the last day or two, that advice reverses. When in doubt, ask us on WhatsApp before you guess.

How is this different from a regular massage at a spa?

A spa massage is designed to feel pleasant for an hour. This is focused work on a specific area, with Thailams chosen for the condition, and a therapist who asks what you do all day before starting. Some sessions are relaxing; some are not particularly. The aim is different.
