Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about booking, conditions, sessions, and what traditional Kerala Ayurveda can and cannot do.
Booking and your first visit
Do I need an appointment before visiting?
Yes, please book by phone or WhatsApp. Sessions are one-to-one and unhurried, so we hold a slot for you rather than run a waiting room.
What happens in the first consultation?
A therapist asks about your condition — how long you have had it, what makes it worse, your daily routine, and what treatment you are already receiving. They then tell you honestly whether traditional Ayurvedic therapy is likely to help. The first consultation is free and there is no obligation to book.
Will my therapist be male or female?
Please ask when you call and we will tell you honestly what we can arrange for your appointment. Many people — women especially — would rather know this before booking than discover it on arrival, and it is a completely reasonable thing to ask. You will be in a private room and kept covered throughout, and you can ask the therapist to stop or adjust at any point.
What should I bring or wear?
Just yourself and loose, comfortable clothing you can change out of easily. Oils, towels and treatment essentials are all provided. If you have scans, X-rays or a prescription from your doctor, please bring them — they help us work safely.
Which languages can I have my consultation in?
Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi, and English. You will always be told what is being done and why, in the language you are most comfortable in.
Conditions and treatment
What is a Thailam?
A Thailam is a medicated herbal oil — the preparation at the centre of almost everything we do. Herbs are simmered into a base oil over many hours to a classical recipe, so the oil carries the properties of the herbs rather than simply lubricating the skin. Different Thailams suit different conditions, and your therapist chooses and warms the right one for you. If you have heard the word only as “oil massage” before, this is the difference: the preparation itself is the medicine.
Which conditions do you treat?
We work with cervical spondylitis, lumbar spondylitis, lower back pain, arthritis, sciatica, paralysis recovery support, muscular pain, frozen shoulder, stress and strain, memory and cognitive wellness, and joint pains. We also offer Shirodhara, and traditional relaxation massage for visitors with no specific condition.
Do you treat cervical spondylitis?
Yes — it is one of our specialisations, and one of the most common conditions we see. Traditional Kerala Thailam therapy and focused bodywork on the cervical region may help support flexibility and ease discomfort in the neck and upper back.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies by condition and by individual. A recent muscle strain may settle quickly; chronic spondylitis or arthritis that has built up over years usually needs a course of sessions and steady repetition. The therapist gives you an honest estimate after the first consultation, and we would rather tell you it will take time than promise you a quick result.
Is Ayurveda a replacement for my doctor’s treatment?
No. Our therapies are complementary wellness practices. They do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition, and they are not a substitute for medical care. Please continue any treatment your doctor has prescribed, and consult a registered medical practitioner about your condition. If we believe you need to see a doctor first, we will tell you.
Can you tell me which treatment suits my condition?
Yes. We offer a range of traditional Kerala Ayurvedic therapies. Please contact us to discuss which treatment suits your condition — describe the problem in your own words on a call or on WhatsApp, and a therapist will guide you.
Do you make cure or guaranteed medical claims?
No. Individual results from Ayurvedic treatment vary based on the condition, its duration, and individual constitution. Anyone guaranteeing a cure for chronic spondylitis or arthritis is not being straight with you.
The centre
Is this a medical clinic or a spa?
Neither. It is a traditional Kerala Ayurveda centre — clean, simple, private, and professional. There are no luxury interiors, because what you pay for here is therapy time, Thailam quality, and the experience of the therapist working with you.
How long has the centre been running?
Over sixteen years in Visakhapatnam, practising classical Kerala Ayurveda throughout.
What does a session cost?
Starting price is shared during your first consultation. We do not publish a price list because the number of sessions depends entirely on your condition. Call or message on WhatsApp and you will get a straight answer.
Still have a question?
Ask us directly. Describe the problem in your own words and a therapist will tell you honestly whether we can help.
